Easter – April 12, 2020 – Didn’t have French Toast Casserole this morning. Didn’t have kielbasa, didn’t have ham, didn’t have beet red horseradish on my ham or kielbasa. Didn’t’ have any blessed bread or butter. Didn’t have the blessed hard boiled egg either.
Didn’t have my brother turning his nose up at the blessed hard boiled egg while communally sharing it with members of the family. My brother is not a fan of eggs in general, and hard boiled especially. And it’s the tradition that the head of the family (at the house where the meal is being served) has the responsibility to offer the communal egg and offer blessings onto the visitors for the coming year.
What I did have was a group text that included most of the family, and greetings and blessing from them as we all hunkered down and did our best to stay healthy.
I’m a Type II diabetic, and I just turned 63 years old. My girlfriend of 16 years is 63 as well. My father is 81 and has COPD. My 40 something sister has breathing issues (asthma I believe). My aunt who is in her late 70s has severe breathing issues as well. We’re all in that ‘high risk’ or immune deficient category. We’re not supposed to be out and about. Not supposed to co-mingle with society in general.
But, we’re all hunkered down, and to the best of our knowledge, we’re all healthy. That’s worth celebrating in these trying times.
Corona Virus (COVID-19) is running it’s course in these here United States, and it’s hitting the elderly, and immune deficient with a vengeance.
But… we’re all hunkered down and healthy. Happy Easter everyone.
