2015 – Work year ending…

So another year has come, and is almost gone.

I can vividly remember the beginning of the year (from a work/job perspective).  I was energized with the thought of taking on a new project.  The research, review and recommendation of a new Learning Management System (LMS) for our company was (and is) a really big deal.  So, when I was given the entire year to pull it off, I was pretty confident it could be done.

Have you ever heard the idea of the “ignorance of a child” is what makes them fearless?  Color me ignorant.

The research, review and recommendation for the new LMS was a lot of work, but was in my wheel house and I felt confident in my performance.  I recommended a product, and it was enthusiastically received AND approved.  I recommended an approach, and it was also approved. I requested resources, and that was approved as well.  Geez… this project’s going to be a snap!

Twentyfour days till the project is due to complete, and Becky (my girlfriend and partner in crime) is beginning to forget what I look like and who I am.  My colleagues and project team members are noticing the bags under my eyes.  And I’m afraid my personal goals for this project are going to be missed.  Of course for the company, and my management, they’ll be informed that the “first phase of the project” has completed successfully. They’ll be happy, most of our user population in the company are going to be happy (once they get over the frustration of yet ANOTHER change). The company will have a shiny new LMS to learn in and they will rejoice and shout praises of our accomplishments!!

But I’ll still know the truth.  My team will know the truth. 2016 will begin, and we’ll hunker down and keep plowing through the enormous amount of data that needs to be downloaded, massaged, tweaked and uploaded into the new system.  Come December of 2016, I’ll sit down and begin writing a new post about how much more is yet to be done.

Why couldn’t I just have stayed ignorant! 🙂
